Missions

The Church has received “the mission of proclaiming and establishing among all peoples the Kingdom of Christ and of God, and she is, on earth, the seed and the beginning that Kingdom.” Lumen Gentiium 5:57

Mission Awareness

All the baptized are on pilgrimage in Christ’s mission for the world, thus all are missionaries for the world.

Society for the Propagation of the Faith

Founded by a lay woman, Marie-Pauline Jaricot, the Society for the Propagation of the Faith provides support for the pastoral and evangelizing programs of the Church in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands and remote regions of Latin America. This important work relies on the prayers and financial support of all Catholics to answer to Christ’s call to “Go teach all nations.” Visit www.onefamilyinmission.org for more information.

World Mission Sunday

Next-to-last Sunday in October. It is a day set aside every year by the Holy Father and organized by the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for Catholics worldwide. It is to help all of us recommit ourselves to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer and financial support.

Missionary Cooperation Plan

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Pastoral Statement on World Mission To the Ends of the Earth #74 states the purpose of this Missionary appeal. “We ask that you missionaries share with us your experience as well as the faith experience of the people you serve. Our faith is deepened and broadened as we learn from you." The plan is to help mission-sending societies solicit funds for their mission efforts as well as give them the opportunity to appeal for vocations to their communities.

The diocese receives applications from mission dioceses as well as religious communities and lay movements to allow them to make appeals in the parishes.

Missionary Childhood Association

Established over 160 years ago as a pontifical society of “children helping children.” Collections in schools and religious education centers are taken during Advent and Lent.

Be sure to visit the Missionary Childhood Association website for adults and check the link for educators/catechists. You can download materials for use in the classroom, such as prayer services, mission activity sheets, and the resource guide.
