Rev. George Soberick Called to His Rest

Soberick GeorgeOn Sunday, April 25, 2021, the Reverend George J. Soberick was called to his rest and to the glory of the Resurrection promised by the Lord. He was 86 years old.

Father Soberick was born on July 13, 1934 in Lansford, Pennsylvania and was ordained a priest on June 2, 1962 by the Most Reverend Ernest J. Primeau, S.T.D., at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester. Father Soberick studied at St. Mary College, Norwalk, CT and then he completed his ecclesiastical studies at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, P.Q., Canada.

Father Soberick served as associate pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Concord; Sacred Heart Parish in Greenville and St. Mary Parish, Claremont. Father Soberick was assigned to the staff of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover with residence at Immaculate Conception Parish, Portsmouth and then assigned for summer studies and weekend ministry at St. Mary Parish, Newmarket. He served as Diocesan Acting Superintendent of Schools and then was appointed Diocesan Superintendent of Schools. During this period of time, he was in residence at Saint Joseph Cathedral.

Father Soberick was appointed pastor of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish in North Conway and then Our Lady of the Lakes Parish in Lakeport where he served until his retirement in 2009. During his tenure as pastor in Lakeport, he also went on a Sabbatical to Rome.

Father Soberick had also served on the Diocesan School Board and as a Priest Senator for the Berlin Deanery. At one point in time he had also been granted Bi-Ritual Faculties for the Latin and Ruthenian Byzantine Rites

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11:00a.m. at Saint Martin of Tours Church, 1 Riverstone Circle New Hope, PA, 18938. The John F. Murray Funeral Home, Flourtown, Pennsylvania has care of the arrangements.
