Rev. Gerald Auger Called to His Rest
On Thursday, November 25, 2021, the Reverend Gerald E. Auger was called to his rest and to the glory of the Resurrection promised by the Lord. He was 91 years old.
Father Auger was born on March 2, 1930 in Manchester, New Hampshire and was ordained a priest on June 4, 1955 by the Most Reverend Matthew F. Brady, D.D., at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester. Father Auger studied at Saint Anselm College, and then he completed his ecclesiastical studies at Saint Mary Seminary in Baltimore, MD.
Father Auger served as associate pastor of the following parishes: Saint Martin Parish, Somersworth; Saint George Parish, Manchester while serving at Bishop Bradley High School; temporary associate pastor of Saint Peter Parish, Farmington; Saint Edmond Parish, Manchester while continuing to teach at Bishop Bradley High School; Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover with residence at Saint Mary Parish, Rollinsford. He also served Saint Joan of Arc Parish, Alton; Saint Joseph Parish, Lincoln; Saint Denis Parish, Hanover while serving as chaplain to Dartmouth Medical Center. He was assigned to ministry as Chaplain to Concord Hospital with residence at Saint John the Evangelist, Concord. Father Auger was named Director of the Christian Life Center for the Laconia Deanery with residence at the LaSalette Fathers in Center Harbor. He also was assigned to summer ministry at Our Lady of the Snows in Franconia.
Father Auger served as pastor of Saint Anthony Parish, Sanbornville; Sacred Heart Parish, Wilton; Saint Edmond Parish, Manchester where he served faithfully until his retirement. In retirement he was asked to serve as temporary Parish Administrator of Parish of the Transfiguration.
Among his accomplishments Father Auger earned a M.Ed. from Rivier College in Nashua and a M.A. in Religious Education from Emmanuel College in Boston as well as pursuing studies at Laval University in Quebec. He served as spiritual director on a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1966 and served on the Pastoral Associates Core Group for one year in 1997 and was also appointed that same year to the Pastoral Associates Certification Board.
The Wake will be held at the Lambert Funeral Home, 1799 Elm Street, Manchester, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. On Wednesday, December 1, 2021 a visitation will also take place at St. Joseph Cathedral Church, 145 Lowell Street, Manchester, where Fr. Auger will lie in repose from 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00a.m. The Rite of Committal will be celebrated after the Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Lambert Funeral Home, Manchester, New Hampshire has care of the arrangements.
